【2】at fault有错误，有缺点

 

【例】It is the management of the factory that was at fault rather than the workers.

无疑，顾客所抱怨的钢笔当中有许多是有毛病的。

 

favour, AmE favor

【1】赐予，给予

 

①常接用with，句式：favour sb with sth。

【例】We trust that our offer is workable and hope you will favour us with an order.

我们相信，我方的报盘是做得开的，盼赐予订单。

 

②这个词的含义过于谦逊，旧式书信中使用过多，有人主张与下列相类似的句子最好不用。

【例】I believe that you will favour me with your valued orders.

我相信您会赐给宝贵的订单。

 

【2】偏爱，优待

 

【例】To favour our customers in their large purchases, we make it a rule to give 2% discount for an order of more than 50 000 pieces.

为优待客户大量订货，凡订购5万件以上者，我方照例给予2%的折扣。

 

【3】恩惠

 

【例】I shall thank you for any favour you can show me.

如蒙照顾，则不胜感激。

 

【4】书信

 

旧式书信用your (esteemed) favour表示your letter，这种用法太陈腐，不宜仿效。

【例】Your (esteemed) favour of July 15 is duly to hand.

贵方7月15日来函，现已收到。

 

【5】喜爱，欢迎

 

【例】The article not only meets with great favour in Africa, but also goes as far as Europe.

该商品不仅在非洲受欢迎，且远销欧洲。

 

【6】in favour受赏识，受好评

 

用作表语，句式be in favour。

【例】Our goods that we offer you are much in favour on the European Continent.

我方向你方报盘的货品，在欧洲大陆颇受好评。

 

【7】in favour of以……为受益人，赞同

 

【例】We open an irrevocable Letter of Credit No.8406 in favour of ABC Trading Co., Ltd.

（信用证用语）兹开立第8406号不可撤销的信用证， 受益人ABC贸易有限公司。

 

【8】in one’s favour以……为受益人

 

【例】We note from your final invoice that there is a balance of US$95 in our favour, for which you sent us a cheque in settlement.

从你方结算发票得悉有差额95美元应付我方，你方已寄来支票一份清偿此款。
