【例】Should we miss the best season for sale of the goods, there is a fear that they will hang upon our hands as dead stock until next year.

该货如果错过这一最好销售季节，恐怕直到明年都要成为我们手中的累赘。

 

【2】hang up拖延，中止

 

常用于被动式。

【例】The business talks were hung up while the representatives spoke to their head offices.

在代表们向他们各自的总公司汇报期间，业务会谈中止了。

What actually [apparently, really] happened was that…常用于外贸书信中，解释失误的原因。

【例】What actually happened was that prior to loading your order it was discovered that our people had not made reservation of shipping space.

实际情况是，就在装运你方订货之前，发现我们的人员并没有预定舱位。

 

【2】碰巧

 

后面接用不定式。

【例】Your quotation happens to be exactly the same as we have received from Japan.

你方的报价恰巧同我们从日本收到的报价完全一样。

 

【3】happen to（某人）发生（什么事）

 

【例】Such a thing has never happened to us.

我们从没有发生过这种事。
