【1】出租，租赁

 

①【例】In New China, the first plot of land was leased to a foreign investor in1987.

1987年新中国首次将一块土地租让给外国投资者。

 

②构成动名词用作定语。

【例】The leasing land-use rights has not only provided opportunities for foreign investors to develop business in China but also increased the income of local governments.

租让土地使用权不仅使外国投资者有机会在中国发展而且还增加了地方政府的收入。

 

【2】租赁，租约

 

①【例】The government granted a lease of a piece of land to a real estate dealer.

政府将一片土地租赁给不动产经纪人。

 

②可用作定语。

【例】Total oil reserves in the South China Sea are estimated to be between 30 bn and 150 bn barrels. The Chinese have opened up about one third of the region for lease negotiation.

中国南海石油总蕴藏量估计约为300亿至1500亿桶。中国人已划出那个地区的1/3以备通过谈判租赁出去。

【例】All cargos [shipments, consignments] shall be insured against All Risks for a sum at least equal to the invoice amount plus ten percent.

leave

【1】离去，轮船起航

 

往往用现在时代替将来时。

【例】S. S. Manchester Trader leaves for Montreal on October 28th.

曼彻斯特商人号轮将于10月28日起航赴蒙特利尔。

 

【2】离开

 

①【例】The tax is imposed when the goods leave the bonded warehouse.

当货物离开保税仓库时，就要征税。

 

②用现在分词作状语。

【例】The consignment is being shipped by s. s. “East Wind,” leaving Southampton for Mombasa on 25th February.

该货正由东风号轮装船，东风号轮将于2月25日起航离开南安普敦驶往蒙巴萨。

 

【3】留下，留交

 

①接用for。

【例】The sellers left no room for bargaining from beginning to end.

卖方自始至终没有让人有讨价还价的余地。

 

②接用介词to。

【例】We left the insurance arrangements to you but we wish to have the goods covered against All Risks.

我们让你方办理保险，希望该货能投保一切险。

 

③现在分词短语用作状语。

【例】The receipts exceeded the expenses, leaving a surplus.

收入超过支出，并有盈余。

 

【4】让（继续处于某种状态）

 

句式：leave sb [sth] +宾补

【例】The prices we quoted in our e-mail of September 13 leave us with only the smallest margins.

我方9月13日电子邮件报的价格，使我方的利润幅度微乎其微。

 

【5】搁置，暂不处理

 

【例】Your quotation is really unacceptable and we have to leave it aside unless a reasonable adjustment is made at your end.

你方报价的确不能接受，你方若不进行适当调价，我们就得置之不理了。

 

【6】leave sb with no choice but to do sth除……外别无他法

 

①【例】As you have failed to make delivery on time, you leave us with no choice but to cancel the order.

由于你方未能按期交货，我们除撤销订货外别无他法。

 

②下列是被动语态句。

【例】As matters stand we are left with no choice but to ask you to accept the draft.

在此情况下，我们除要求你方承兑汇票外别无他法。

 

【7】leave much to be desired还有许多可改进之处

 

【例】China’s trade volume last year at US $40.1 billion is encouraging but still leaves much to be desired.

中国去年的401亿美元的贸易额是十分令人鼓舞的，但是还可以大大提高。

 

【8】leave nothing to be desired完美无缺

 

【例】The external appearance of the cases left nothing to be desired.

箱子的外表完美无缺。
