At the 5th China International Import Expo (CIIE) held last November, the Icelandic whiskey producer Eimverk attracted a lot of media attention with its signing of a contract with China Poly Liquors, successfully entering the vast Chinese market. In fact, some well-known Icelandic enterprises such as Össur and Bioeffect had participated in the exhibition several years in a row. Over the past five years, the CIIE had brought many “fine Icelandic products” to the Chinese market. Among the favorites are sea cucumbers, herring oil, skin care products, prosthetics and orthotics. This of course cannot be achieved without China’s unwavering commitment to economic globalization.
在去年11月第五届中国国际进口博览会上，冰岛威士忌生产商Eimverk与中国保利酒业有限公司签约，冰岛威士忌成功进入中国大市场，引发媒体关注。事实上，奥索、蓓欧菲等冰岛知名企业已经连续多年参展。五年来，进博会带动“冰岛好物”源源不断进入中国市场，野生红极参、鲱鱼油、护肤品、假肢与矫形器等产品深受中国消费者青睐。这些成果都离不开中国坚持经济全球化的正确方向。
On October 22, 2022, the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was successfully concluded. The most important political achievement of the Congress was the election of the new leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as its core. The report of the CPC 20th National Congress points out that China adheres to the basic state policy of opening up and promote the building of an open world economy. By so doing, China firmly pursues the win-win strategy of striving for fresh national development while providing more benefits to countries and peoples around the world. The five consecutive CIIE expositions serve as a proof to the fact that China sticks to opening up, welcomes foreign goods and investment, and promotes the development of the globalized industrial chain in an active way. In 2021, China’s trade in goods and services increased to US $6.9 trillion, outbound investment exceeded US $2.6 trillion, and its total foreign direct investment exceeded US $2.6 trillion. Nowadays China is the largest trading partner of more than 120 countries and regions, contributing to an average of 38.6 percent of world economic growth from 2013 to 2021.
去年10月22日，中国共产党第二十次全国代表大会胜利闭幕，大会最重要的政治成果是选举产生了以习近平同志为核心的新一届党中央领导集体。二十大报告指出，中国坚持对外开放的基本国策，坚定奉行互利共赢的开放战略，不断以中国新发展为世界提供新机遇，推动建设开放性世界经济，更好惠及各国人民。连续5届举办进博会充分说明中国坚持开放，接纳外国投资与商品，积极推动发展全球化产业链。2021年，中国货物贸易和服务贸易总额增至6.9万亿美元，对境外投资存量超过2.6万亿美元，累计吸引外商直接投资超过2.6万亿美元。中国已经是120多个国家和地区的最大贸易伙伴，2013至2021年对世界经济增长的平均贡献率达38.6%。
Following the conclusion of the 20th Party Congress of CPC, I had met with Minister of Infrastructure Sigurður Jóhannsson, Minister of Culture and Commerce Lilja Alfreðsdóttir and Minister of Food Svandís Svavarsdóttir, toured Reykjanesbær, talked with members of the Club of Former Ambassadors of Iceland, Icelandic Chinese Cultural Society, Icelandic Chinese Trade Council and others, finding that they were very interested in China’s entry policy and economic development. As a matter of fact, following the close of the 20th CPC National Congress, China had announced 20 measures to further improve epidemic prevention and control. Recently, China had decided to implement provisional measures on cross-border travel after the release of measures against Class-B infectious diseases from January 8 this year. Inbound travelers will only need to show a negative nucleic acid test taken within 48 hours prior to departure. Nucleic acid tests and collective quarantine will no longer be conducted on inbound travelers upon arrival. Limits on the number of international flights will also be removed. China will further refine arrangements for foreign nationals’ entry into China for such purposes as resumption of work, business, and education. China will gradually resume entry and exit of passengers by land and water, and will resume outbound tourism for Chinese citizens.
党的二十大召开之后，我会见基础设施部长约翰松、文化与商务部长利利娅、食品部长斯万迪丝，走访雷克亚内斯镇，与冰前大使俱乐部成员以及冰中文协、冰中贸协等冰社会各界人士进行交流，发现大家都非常关心中国的入境政策和经济发展。事实上，党的二十大闭幕后，中国就发布了进一步优化疫情防控工作的20条措施。近期，中方决定自今年1月8日起实施新型冠状病毒感染乙类乙管后中外人员往来暂行措施，保留来华人员行前48小时核酸检测，取消来华人员入境后全员核酸检测和集中隔离，取消国际客运航班数量管控措施，进一步恢复复工复产、商务、留学等外籍人士来华安排，逐步恢复水路、陆路口岸客运出入境，有序恢复中国公民出境旅游等。
The implementation of China’s new epidemic prevention and control measures will further facilitate people-to-people exchanges, promote mutually beneficial cooperation between China and other countries, and push forward world economic recovery after the pandemic. As a matter of fact, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, President of the European Council Charles Michel and some other leaders across the globe had visited China shortly after the close of the 20th Party Congress. Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the G20 Bali Summit and the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting among others. These intensive diplomatic activities demonstrated the strong will of the international community to deepen exchanges and cooperation with China. These activities also reflected the importance attached by all parties to China’s role and status in meeting global challenges.
随着中方疫情防控新举措的出台，将进一步便利中外人员往来，促进中国同各国的互利合作，推动疫情后世界经济复苏。事实上，德国总理舒尔茨、欧洲理事会主席米歇尔等国领导人在二十大结束不久后相继访华。习近平主席出席二十国集团巴厘岛峰会、亚太经合组织领导人非正式会议等活动。这些密集的外交活动体现了国际社会深化同中国交往合作的强烈意愿，也反映了各方对在各种全球性挑战面前中国角色、中国地位、中国作用的高度重视。
In terms of the Chinese economy, according to the report of the third quarter, China’s GDP for the first three quarters of this year reached 87 trillion yuan, up by 3% year on year and 0.5 percentage points higher than that in the first half of this year. China’s GDP grew by 3.9 percent year on year in the third quarter, 3.5 percentage points higher than that in the second quarter. China’s economy withstood the shock of volatile international situation and multiple unexpected factors. The slowdown in the early stage of the second quarter was reversed in a timely manner. The momentum of economic recovery was sound, consumption continued to recover, investment continued to grow steadily, and the net export achieved rapid increase. GDP for the whole year of 2022 is expected to exceed 120 trillion yuan.
关于中国经济状况，根据前不久“出炉”的三季度中国经济成绩单，中国前三季度国内生产总值87万亿元，同比增长3%，比上半年加快0.5个百分点；第三季度国内生产总值同比增长3.9%,比二季度加快3.5个百分点。中国国民经济顶住了复杂国际形势、多重超预期因素的冲击，二季度前期经济下滑势头及时得到扭转，经济恢复势头良好，消费持续恢复，投资平稳增长，净出口较快增长。2022年中国全年国内生产总值预计超过120万亿元。
The sea refuses no river. China cannot develop in isolation from the rest of the world, nor is China dispensable if the world is to have prosperity. As the world’s second largest economy, an open China always means opportunity to the world. China is ready to work with all countries for peaceful coexistence and common development on the basis of mutual benefit, equality and mutual respect. China will continue to open up on a wider scale, in wider areas and at deeper levels. China will continue to uphold the Chinese path toward modernization, build a new system of an open economy at a higher level, and continue to share its development opportunities with all other countries, Iceland included.
不拒众流，方为江海。中国的发展离不开世界，世界的繁荣也需要中国。作为世界第二大经济体，开放的中国将始终是世界的机遇，中国愿同所有国家在相互尊重、平等互利的基础上和平共处、共同发展。中国将坚持实施更大范围、更宽领域、更深层次对外开放，坚持走中国式现代化道路，建设更高水平开放型经济新体制，继续同包括冰岛在内的世界各国分享中国发展的机遇。
