Ambassador Yu Dunhai’s Remarks at the Concert Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations Between China and Malta

尊敬的阿贝拉总理，
尊敬的博奇外长、内阁部长们、阁下们、议员们，
亲爱的朋友们，

Minister Borg,
Cabinet Members,
Excellencies,
Members of Parliament,
Dear friends,
今晚我们欢聚一堂，共同庆祝中国和马耳他建交50周年。我谨代表中国大使馆，向各位嘉宾表示热烈欢迎！
Tonight, we are gathered here to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Malta. Let me begin by extending a warm welcome to all the distinguished guests for honoring us with your presence.
志合者，不以山海为远。半个世纪前，明托夫总理历史性访华，周恩来总理亲自接机并陪同。两国老一辈领导人高瞻远瞩，共同缔造了中马友谊，翻开了中马关系的新篇章。
As a Chinese saying goes, “Nothing, not even mountains and oceans, can separate people with shared goals and visions.” Half a century ago, Prime Minister Dominic Mintoff paid a historic visit to China. With vision and foresight, the elder generation of our leaders jointly forged the friendship between our two countries, and opened a new chapter in China-Malta relations.
50年风雨同舟。从侧厅50周年图片展的零光片羽中，我们可以重温这一光辉历程，并为抵达今天这一重要里程碑而倍感自豪。我们见证了红色中国船坞、防波堤等项目的建成，见证了“一带一路”合作文件的签署，见证了中国文化中心、中医中心、孔子学院、静园为促进两国民心相通做出的贡献，见证了2011年中国从利比亚撤侨马耳他鼎力相助，见证了两国携手抗疫、守望相助的兄弟情谊。
For half a century, China and Malta have braved wind and rain and always stood on each other's side. The photo exhibition in the next hall is a window to the glorious journey we have traversed together over these 50 years. We are so proud of what we have achieved.
Together, we have witnessed the construction of the Red China Dock, the Marsaxlokk Breakwater, and the signing of MOU on “Belt and Road” cooperation.
Together, we have witnessed the contribution made by the China Cultural Center, the Traditional Chinese Medicine Center, the Confucius Institute to the mutual understanding between our peoples.
Together, we have witnessed Malta’s assistance to China in the evacuation of Chinese nationals from Libya in 2011, and the spirit of brotherhood that defines our joint battle against Covid-19.
建交50周年之际，习近平主席同同维拉总统进行了热情友好的通话，赞誉两国是经得起时间考验的老朋友、好朋友。李克强总理同阿贝拉总理互致贺电，相约推动两国友好关系实现更大发展。近期习近平主席复信圣玛格丽特中学“中国角”师生，鼓励更多马耳他青少年做文明互鉴的促进者和人民友好的传承者。展望下一个50年，我们充满信心，满怀希望。
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary, President Xi Jinping had a warm and friendly phone conversation with President George Vella. He noted that as old and good friends, China and Malta have forged a close bond that stands the test of time.
Premier Li Keqiang and Prime Minister Robert Abela also exchanged congratulatory messages and committed to push for greater progress of China-Malta relations.
Last month, President Xi Jinping wrote a reply letter to Mr. Martin Azzopardi and his students of the China Corner at St. Margaret College Secondary School, which testifies the ever closer people to people ties between our two countries.
Looking into the next 50 years, we need to draw up a blueprint for cooperation and work to upgrade our relations. We are full of confidence and hope in our joint future.
两千年前一位中国思想家说，不积小流，无以成江海。中马友好离不开在座各位的共同努力。在此，请允许我向为两国关系发展做出贡献的人们表示崇高敬意和诚挚感谢。
Two thousand years ago, an ancient Chinese thinker observed, “No rivers and oceans can be formed without the accumulation of streams.” Likewise, the friendship between China and Malta is inseparable from the joint efforts of all friends present.
Here, please allow me to express my highest respect and sincere thanks to all those who have contributed to the growth of China-Malta relations.
今晚，我们非常荣幸同马耳他外交部共同举办本次音乐会，感谢地中海会议中心参与承办。马耳他爱乐乐团拥有一群充满天赋的音乐家，将为我们呈现一场精彩的音乐盛宴。贝多芬曾说过，“音乐，有人将它比作花朵，因为它散发出不绝的芬芳，把生活装饰得更美。”借此机会，我祝愿各位度过一个愉快的夜晚！祝愿中马两国繁荣昌盛，友谊长存！
Tonight, we are honored to co-host this concert with the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, and co-organise with the Mediterranean Conference Center. Thank you so much indeed.
Later, the talented musicians from the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will bring to us a feast of music, which I’m sure you will all enjoy.
With that, I wish you all a pleasant evening, and wish China and Malta greater prosperity and everlasting friendship!
