Statistical Linguistics

统计语言学

A branch of linguistics which studies the application of statistical techniques in linguistics theory and description. The study includes the analysis of frequency and distribution of linguistics units in texts with the aim of identifying the distinctive characteristics of the speaker or writer (as in stylostatistics); but attempts have also been made to establish general laws concerning the statistical characteristics of languages, such as the relationship between word types and the word tokens, the relative frequency of items in different samples, the quantification of such notions as redundancy in statistical terms, and so on.

语言学的一个分支，研究统计方法在语言学理论和描写中的应用。这种研究包括分析语言单位在篇章中的出现频率和分布，目的是识别说话人或作者的区别性特点（如风格统计学）；但也有人试图确立一些关于语言统计特点的一般规律，例如词的型和词的例之间的关系，语项在不同样品中的相对频率，用统计法使羡余这类概念量化，等等。
