道歉

 

后面接用to sb for sth。句式：apologize to sb for sth [doing sth]。

【例】We wish to for the delay in our reply.

来信迟复，我们表示歉意。

①只有在a letter [word] of apology（一封道歉的信，一句道歉的话），in apology for（为……而表示歉意）等短语中，apology才用作不可数名词。

【例】We have sent them a letter of apology for the delay in shipment.

因延误装船，我们已发给他们一封道歉信。

 

②可用单数和复数，意思相同，但常用复数。用复数时并没有多次道歉的意思，many apologies也只是表示歉意的程度高。

【例】I owe you an apology [apologies].

我应该向你道歉。

 

③与apology搭配的动词，常用make、offer、owe、tender、accept等，外贸书信中常用tender和accept。此外apology后常用to sb for sth或doing sth。

【例】We tender our apologies for not having replied in due time to your letter of June 20.

6月20日来信未能及时回复，特致歉意。

 

appeal

【1】对……有吸引力； 投其所好

 

①常接用介词to。

【例】We think the superb workmanship as well as the novel design will appeal to your customers.

我们认为其高超的工艺及新颖的设计是会对你方顾客有吸引力的。

 

②appeal与to之间可插入表示程度的状语。

【例】We trust you will find that its design and color will appeal very much to your market.

我们相信你方定会发现其花样和色彩会受到你地市场热烈欢迎的。

 

③构成现在分词使用。

【例】Another purpose of packing is to make the item looking appealing to the buyers.

包装的另一个目的就是要使商品看起来对顾客有吸引力。

 

【2】吸引力

【例】You know that goods of cheap prices in most cases have no appeal for the buyer of this particular market

你们知道，低廉价格的货物对于这一特别市场的顾客大多没有吸引力。

 

【3】上诉；控诉

【例】To tell the truth, appeal to law is unwelcome to us as to you.

老实说，诉诸法律对你我双方都没有好处[都不受欢迎]。
