appear

【例】So far your Letter of Credit has failed to appear.

你方的信用证至今尚未收到。

【2】看来；好像；似乎

在外贸书信中，为了使内容表达得婉转，常使用appear。

①后接动词不定式。

【例】You appear to have misunderstood our intention.

你方似乎误解了我们的意图。

②与形式主语There配合使用。

【例】There appear to have been a mistake.

看来，其中有错误。

③用It作形式主语，后接that从句。

【例】It appears that the amount in your L/C is not sufficient.

你方信用证所开的金额似嫌不足。

④用作系动词，后接形容词性的表语。

【例】Their business discussion appears fruitful.

 他们的业务会谈似乎有成果。

外观，外表

我方产品在质量、外观和内包装上都很完美。

②appearance用作n(C)时，常用单数，appearances常用以表示“虚假的外表”或贬义。

【例】Don’t judge by appearances.

不要凭外表来判断。
